WEB DESIGN // BRANDING

PROJECT SUMMARY

The Center for Astrophysics, a world-renowned astronomy research institution created by a partnership between Harvard and Smithsonian, wanted a new brand and website that would reach the public and its major donors while continuing to serve the organization’s internal team’s needs. The rebrand and website put the science, which unites all audiences of CfA, front and center.

This project was done at the marketing agency, idfive. I aided in the initial conception and execution of the brand with the idfive creative & account teams, and lead the website redesign.

Design Flats

The website redesign was a great opportunity to display the beautiful images at the CfA’s disposal. The typography on the site is large and accessible to accommodate the institution’s wide audience. The site employs a modern, forward-looking sans (Heebo), as well as a serif (Charis) that honors the tradition of the institution’s prestigious parents—Harvard and Smithsonian.

The consistent visual hierarchy and visual patterns ease navigation through dense information for both internal users and visitors to the site.
